The C also acquits itself excellently in nuance and resolution. Oh, and twice the power: Wpc. Expect big sound and even more bang for the buck. It sounds good, almost very good, but its real strength lies in the sheer amount of stuff it handles. The Marantz PMN integrated stereo amplifier is a good-sounding product that can shrink audiophile sprawl down to something more manageable without sacrificing what matters most. Despite having a foot firmly in every camp, its presentation is impactful and gracious—an overall solid performer packed with value. The IDA-8 delivers substance with plenty of gusto—and does so from an astonishingly quiet background. A great-sounding, stone-cold good deal. The QUAD Vena II is small and gray with a matte finish, though the optional case adds a very nice gloss.

The amp is rated 45Wpc into 8 ohms, and includes a phono section, two analog inputs, a preamp-out jack, and a plethora of digital inputs. The Vena II strikes the perfect balance between classic analog inputs and modern digital capabilities. The 80Wpc unit offers four unbalanced inputs and one balanced input, as well as a wide range of digital ports, including Bluetooth aptX HD , that feed the ESS Sabre DAC. Even the best solid-state designs could not then reproduce the three dimensions—the depth, much less the width—of a real-world soundfield, and reproduce them with something like a full range of dynamic contrasts. This amplifier could. Not only that, but throughout most of its range, the D captured the fundamentals and harmonics of the music, particularly the frequencies from the midrange on up. Thus, it had a hard-to-define then quality of naturalness, call it rightness, that made it unique.

For experienced listeners, the D was such an overpowering literally as well experience that its audible flaws highly colored bass, overly romantic midrange colorations, and a drooping top octave were overlooked. In that regard, it was a singularity. The A introduced active biasing that allowed the amplifier to deliver far more Class A power than conventionally biased Class AB amplifiers of similar size and heat dissipation. The trick was a variable bias scheme that biased the output stage into Class A operation in accordance with the signal dynamics rather than continuously. Other designers at the time thought that Pass had pulled a sleight of hand, but his active-biasing idea was simply an ingenious leap of imagination.

The follow-up amplifier, the A, brought the variable-bias technique to a lower price but maintained the innovative design as well as the gorgeous liquidity that made the A a benchmark. Introduced in , the Sid Smith designed Model 8B represented the pinnacle of Class A Ultra-Linear design in its day, delivering a sweet 30Wpc from a pair of EL power pentodes operating in fixed bias. But the later Model 9 monoblock eclipsed the 8B in output power and was the best tube amp money could buy back in the s. A 70W 40W in switchable triode mode monoblock, it set the standard for liquidity and gorgeousness of timbre in its day—and to some diehards still does. The Model 9 introduced several circuit innovations including an ingenious power supply that prevented the DC supply rail from being modulated by the music a first , using four lower-powered output tubes rather than a pair of higher-powered tubes, and a frequency-compensation circuit than introduced no distortion at high output levels another first.

Though dark and euphonious in tonal balance the 8B was arguably more neutral , the Model 9 was and is so beautiful that many listeners forgive it its colorations. Designed by a young unknown upstart named Bob Carver who would later prove to be one of the brightest and most innovative thinkers ever to grace audio , the Phase Linear was the first high-powered blockbuster amplifier. The subsequent flood of high-powered amps in the 70s, inspired by the Phase Linear, in turn allowed loudspeaker designers more freedom to innovate, sparking a remarkable period of creativity in loudspeaker design. With a novel power supply, massive voltage swings on the order of V when other solid-state amps could swing perhaps 35V , and transistors mounted on the outside of the chassis, the brought fresh and original thinking to solid-state amplification.

The Phase Linear , introduced two years after the , was perhaps the first of the big solid-state amps to offer high power without the usual price tag in graininess and odd-order harmonic roughness. The little-known and underrated Hadley Laboratories C aside, the John Curl designed ML-2 was the first solid-state amp to put the transistor on an equal footing with the tube. Introduced in , these 25W Class A monoblocks 50W into 4 ohms, W into 2 ohms from Mark Levinson Audio Systems set a new standard of clarity, liquidity, timbral beauty, and three-dimensional imaging and soundstaging for solid-state. Use its four channels to power speakers in a second zone or bridge it to create a 2 x watt stereo powerhouse that can be pressed into action with balanced or unbalanced speaker connections.

Designed to compete with some of the best amplifiers in the world, the M29 delivers 7 x watts into 8 ohms or a foreboding 7 x watts into 4 ohms and offers the choice of balanced or unbalanced inputs. The NAD powerhouse was adept at handling the subtle and no-so-subtle intricacies of two-channel music — including the aggressive bottom end on the organ transcription of Pictures at an Exhibition — and had no trouble driving seven speakers in a 5. Bridging provides the flexibility to accommodate a number of different system layouts, including a 5. To put a number on it, this amp is rated to deliver 7 x watts into 8 ohms with all channels driven, which begs a question: Do you actually need that much power?

Tangible benefits, confirmed by reviewer Al Griffin in his listening tests, include a whisper-quiet noise floor and enough headroom to deliver frightening real sound, whether transients in high-res music or ricocheting gunshots in an Atmos soundtrack. Power output into 8 ohms is watts per channel and jumps to watts when two channels are bridged. Drop to 4 ohms, and power increases to and 1, watts, respectively. The amp is a veritable beast and about the only negative we could find is that it runs hot. Rated at watts per channel into 8 ohms with two channels driven, it achieved watts with all 5 channels driven at our low.

And it shows. May , Read Full Review Cary Audio Design Model 7. Yes, goose-bumping good. The folks at Cary are blessed with good ears and great taste. At its heart is the Edge A integrated amp, ready to deliver all the power you will need to drive any speaker and equipped with a versatile assortment of connections. For better or worse, it eschews extras such as Wi-Fi, onboard access to streaming services, and even an onscreen interface. Putting the Theater 7 to the test with a carefully chosen selection of music and movies, reviewer Michael Trei marveled at its ability to convey not only sledgehammer dynamics but subtlety and transparency. No small feat. amplifier delivers watts per channel and weighs pounts; it has four power transformers with individual windings associated with each amplifier channel. With 7 of 10 channels driven in our bench tests the most we could do , it handily achieved watts. Such is the case with the Chorus , a new kind of Class A amplifier that delivers clean power without paying huge penalties in heat build-up and efficiency the traditional Achilles heel of Class A.

If cost is little or no object, the promises audio bliss with its ability to deliver watts of bold power into seven channels— or 7 x into 4 ohms. LOG IN JOIN. Search form Search. By casediletanta January 24, in General Chatter. casediletanta thanks! I'll have to take a look later. andrewilley can this link to the exellent guide be made permanent perhaps? Oh thank you. Yeah sure, I was thinking of making it more "visible". Would be nice if users could easily find this guide. One of my friends said "damn, you need to be an audio engineer to use Poweramp lol" when I recommended them Poweramp. Anyway this is a great guide. Kudos to the writers. Much appreciated. Thank you sir, i was frustrated with all those options and your post helped me to understand a lot more about pa and sound in general!!

I was looking at the playlist editor. I personally organize my collection on Linux with the desktop tag editors and rarely use playlists. Though I suppose making it through the app itself should be enough. So even if I were to download the "New Playlist Manager" I would only use it to make. m3u which can be universally applied Can that be done? Though the question of moving the tracks to another spot still exists , but I suppose I will just have to deal with it myself then. However if you already have. M3U or. M3U8 playlists on your Linux device, and the folder names that contain your song files are the same as the ones on your Android phone, they should work fine if you simply copy them over. I have an LG G7, it has a quad 32 bit dac, but i can't get the sample format to be any larger than 16 bit. Why is it not allowing me to change it?

I'm using a fresh install of build , all the other settings are on default. Then in that output device's settings choose a frequency. I had a G7 and the quad DAC sounds pretty good with decent headphones and with Poweramp set to Hi-Res output. But note this only applies to the headphone output. And any USB devices will default to their native capabilities in most cases. I'm not being given any options to modify anything audio-quality-related. Anyone know of how to work around this? That screenshot is of the Equalizer app, not Poweamp Music Player. Which app are you asking about? I think this answers my concerns. I wasn't sure if the equalizer would also have the hi-res workaround for Android's downsampling. The Equalizer is not an audio source in its own right, so it simply adjusts the sound that has been created by whatever player you are using.

edit: nvm, I read your explanations what i learnt mostly is that my device doesn't support hi-res audio and a bunch of bluetooth codecs ty for the post!
